MAKE THE MOST OF THE BOATING SEASON WITH THESE TIPS!

As the season gets underway, you obviously want to enjoy your boat to the fullest and avoid having to return to port every so often for minor maintenance. Is your vessel currently ashore or in the shed? Then this is the perfect time to tackle and apply our boating season tips!

Cleaning and washing an important part of keeping your boat in optimal condition.

Before leaving port, it is wise to schedule a cleaning. Damage and spots in need of touch-up are easier to spot now. Repairing minor damage and touching up the waterline is perfectly doable in the shed or ashore. Especially now that temperatures are soaring.

Painting is best done when it is between 15 and 25 degrees outside. Make sure the humidity does not exceed 85%. Of course, our specialists are ready to give you a hand in the shipyard.

Prevent quick dirt adhesion with a wax coating

Water, acid rain, UV light and other influences cause the gloss of your boat to diminish after a boating season. The lacquer becomes dull. This slight weathering can be clearly felt even when you run your hand over the surface.

The reduction in gloss (weathering) also makes the boat more vulnerable to dirt adhesion and the action of water (frost). It is therefore advisable to wax your boat regularly.

Long-term protection of your paintwork

Dirt adhesion is disastrous for your paintwork and can damage it if you keep sailing for a long time. At our shipyard, you can have your yacht polished so that the original shine of the varnish or gel coat is restored. Polishing is best left to a specialist as polishing is done in gradations, depending on the condition and type of surface. A precise job, therefore.

Finally, a wax layer is applied, giving your boat a beautiful shine. You will also see that the colour of your boat becomes deeper as well. Depending on the type of wax used, you can enjoy the benefits of this gloss layer for an entire sailing season. Long-term protection, in other words. Dirt hardly adheres, making cleaning your boat a piece of cake. Of course, you can also have polishing and waxing carried out by the professionals at Pikmeerkruiser.
