The boating season has unfortunately come to an end and so it is time to get your boat ready for winter. Sigh… isn’t that annoying chore that comes around the corner every autumn? With these tips, winterising your boat doesn’t have to be a complicated job. No time? If so, we will jump in and make sure your picnic lake cruiser is back in tip-top shape for the new sailing season. That way, you save time and know that your boat will be winterised in trusted hands.
Tip 1: Keep in mind freezing risks
The first tip is immediately the most important. Due to freezing risks to the engine, drinking water system and all other water-using systems, the boat should be winterised after the boating season. It is essential here that all underwater skin penetrations with ball valves are well protected against frost by antifreeze. Turn off the boiler switch and remove all water from the boiler, tanks, pipes and other parts (do not forget the deck wash pump and bilge pump). Put antifreeze in the toilet, sinks and shower. Tip 2: Clean and fresh into winter storage
Make sure the boat is thoroughly clean before entering winter storage. This is because dirt that has been soaking into the boat for a whole winter is much harder to remove in spring. Take cushions, life jackets and other textiles off board and store them dry. After all, cleaning mould stains is a tedious job.
Tip 3: Keep ventilating
Ensure adequate ventilation during winter. This prevents mould from moisture. In poorly ventilated rooms, you can install moisture absorbers. Also clean the boat thoroughly and make sure there are no food leftovers on board.
